    Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engine’s filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all around saw! I purchased my first Stihl product back in 2008, a BR380 backpack blower after my old handheld blower crapped out. Now 8 years later it still runs like new and never needed anything and it has a bunch of hours on it. This spring I needed a new string trimmer and purchased the FS110R and love it. When the time came for a new chain saw there was no question on the brand. It was going to be a Stihl. After much research I chose the MS271 with the 20" bar and just like my other Stihl purchases it has not disappointed. Just cut 4 medium sized trees and used this saw for everything including limbing. All I can say is very impressive. Not sure how long the saw actually ran but it was quite a bit and didn't run out of fuel. It handles effortlessly and is very easy to operate. Starts great hot or cold. Took 3 pulls cold and after that only 1 pull to restart it all day. For the size of this saw I don't think the weight is bad. After all it is a full size saw designed to cut most anything the average home or farm owner will ever cut. For me, I found that it cuts as fast or faster than any other brand in this size and a pleasure to operate. Price isn't bad either and though it is what I consider a "big ticket" item if you take care of it this saw will last the average guy like me a lifetime. Some day when I'm dead and gone or too old to use it this one will get passed down to my son most likely still running like new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than i expected Everyone in my family has always bought stihl. So when it came time for me to buy a saw, there was no doubt it was going to be a stihl. Upon some research I found the farmboss to be a popular and dependable saw. So I purchased at plaza hardware with the 20" bar and got the corresponding products. Saw starts exactly like I was told it would every time using the starting procedure I was taught before I left. This saw cuts fast and clean, runs flawless, fuel efficient, bar oil efficient as well. Great product just like my dads 026 which still runs perfectly and is equivalent to this saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big enough for job! I have been a devoted Stihl user for 20 plus years. When I moved to some acreage, I needed to step up my saw horse power. There was no decision to make on brand, just how big! I chose this saw and it starts everytime and cuts like hot butter. Even ion that pesky hedge!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable I live in north eastern North Dakota. This spring we had a terrible series of wind storms. I bought this saw after my other brand saws crank snapped when it got pinched. I have used this saw extensively this summer along with my 039 heavily modified chainsaw. I have cut down at work and at home and for friends and family close to 200 trees this year. I thought right from the start that this was an excellent saw. Its extremely comfortable. I have carpel tunnel and this saw never bothers me like my 039 does after an hour or two. For what it is as a homeowner saw it does a fantastic job. My complaints are the 325 chain for what it is is pretty good. the 18 super bar. 72 links 063 gauge is nice but it is very slow in the cut the saw revs out and runs fine its just slow to cut even with yellow chain. I have never had to pull more than three times to start. ever. cold or hot. I just think that after I initially adjusted the carb that the saw would cut faster. In all hard woods with the RM yellow chain you really have to dig in hard with the saw dogs witch are insufficient for the saw. I believe that if the saw was geared up a little it had a higher rpm band it would be much much much improved in the cut. it has the power but it just wont cut fast. the chips it throws are impressive. reliability is second to none. and it is so so so nice on fuel its unbelievable in that aspect. it just is so slow in the cut compared to any of the pro series that use the 3/8 chain or have the higher rpm band. like I've said I really like this saw. its one of the best that I've ever used but for speed and for sheer volume of trees that it can cut in a day this isn't the best saw. I have never owned a saw that started and ran as nice as this one after just removing the spark arrestor and retuning after initial break in. but speed isn't there. when hard wet wood is involved or in the forecast a larger saw with more power is needed. the trees that I cut are in the 20" range and that is my only big complaint. I would recommend this saw to anyone looking for a light weight comfortable saw. this is not a cheep saw and the weight is their at around fourteen pounds with a bar and chain so its not a pup, but its nice on the hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I got this ms 271 This is my first time owning and using a chainsaw and I feel very comfortable using this saw. Had some leftover trees from my lazy cousin that needed bucking on our property. I have the 18" bar and I cut through 24" stuff no problem but did dull the chain quickly because of the dirt and rotting wood on some trees. Ordered 2 more chains to swap out. Good saw for weekend warrior cutting. Good job Stihl!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Farm Boss is a good name for this quality saw The MS 271 is a great saw to own. I like the way it starts every time and, it cuts like a much larger saw with power to spare. Farm Boss is a good name for this quality saw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the weight distribution and handling A long time ago I bought a Stihl chainsaw And it worked very well what would rattle apart too quickly after fixing it 3 or 4 times at the Saw Shop I traded it in for another brand. a friend of mine recently told me to go look at the new stihl chainsaws and after reviewing it and using it out at the farm I am glad I bought it.
